Government Medical College Nagpur Ajni, is a prominent medical institution in Maharashtra, India, established in 1947. Initially, it was affiliated with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj University until 1997, after which it became part of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. The city has a rich legacy spanning over three centuries, once serving as the capital of the Gond rulers under King Bakht Buland Shah, and later continuing its importance during the British era. The origins of medical education in the region trace back to 1862, when Mayo Hospital, then known as City Hospital, was established. In 1914, a medical school began functioning within the hospital under the Nagpur Education Board. Named after Mr. Robertson, a Joint Commissioner of the Central Provinces, it offered the L.M.P. diploma. At that time, students seeking advanced medical education had to travel to other cities due to the absence of a full-fledged medical college locally.
